Saturday Morning Assistant

We are currently looking for a responsible and enthusiastic individual (must be aged 16+) to work two hours on Saturday mornings between 7.00am and 9.00am, ideally starting by the end of October/early November.  In this paid role, working with one of our experienced volunteers, you would, amongst other things, be responsible for the set-up of the shop, ready for opening at 8.00am and then serving customers between the hours of 8am and 9am.  Full training will be given.

It is important that the successful candidate is a ‘people person’, mature and responsible. Good IT and numerical skills are needed as you will be dealing with money and using the till.

The details of the job are as follows:

  • Working in the shop between 7.00am – 9.00pm every Saturday.  The shop is open between 8am and 12.30pm but there are jobs to do before opening.  Volunteers cover the rest of the morning from 9.00am until close
  • Activities include getting all Saturday newspapers ready for sale including pre-ordered papers, setting up the till, pricing/displaying the bread, preparing the outside fruit and vegetable display, checking sell-by dates, putting out stock, ensuring all lights are on and signage is out, the shop is clean and ready for customers
  • A key element of the role is dealing with customers in a polite and friendly manner.  Many of our customers are local and regular and some have been volunteers so they are very familiar with the shop
  • Carrying out other jobs as required by your line manager

The job includes heavy lifting of newspaper bundles so candidates need to be physically able and hard working.  On a practical level, the job would suit someone local to Limpsfield High Street as you need to arrive at the shop for a 7.00am start.  Benefits of the role include a competitive rate of pay and holiday entitlement.

Anyone interested in the role should apply to: manager@limpsfieldstores.co.uk with a letter of application, a telephone number and a CV if you already have one available (but this is not essential).  We will require contact details for references later in the process.

We look forward to receiving applications.
